More popular, but more harmful to the environment: The growing trend toward all-wheel drive

All-wheel drive is becoming increasingly popular for new cars in Germany. Possible reasons for this could be the SUV boom, driving dynamics or the popularity of caravans. Fuel consumption is higher compared with front-wheel drive, which has a negative impact on the climate and fuel costs. Demand for all-wheel-drive vehicles in Germany is significantly higher in the south than in the north, and higher in the countryside than in the city. They are particularly popular in Bavaria.
