Tesla plans to expand its Gigafactory in Grünheide, Brandenburg. After the fifth Tesla factory was built in just two years in the Brandenburg wasteland in March 2022, there was a huge rush of enthusiastic Tesla fans. With 11,000 employees, Tesla is by far the largest employer in the region and is already planning the next phase of expansion. One million cars are to roll off the assembly line each year instead of the current 250,000. In Germany, Tesla vehicles are just ahead of VW in terms of new electric car registrations. Mercedes, Audi and BMW follow. Tesla is making a significant contribution to Brandenburg's current strong economic growth. On the other hand, environmentalists are concerned because the factory is partly located in a water protection area. In addition, the IG Metall trade union is already criticizing the excessive workload of employees as a result of job cuts and high sickness rates.
