VW price war for electric cars in China - Will gray imports also destroy domestic business?

Due to fierce competition in electric cars, VW is having considerable sales problems in China despite favorable offers. In VW's most important single market, there is a threatening sales slump despite very favorable offers and discounts. This is also persisting because the software and entertainment features as well as the technical maturity of local suppliers are perceived to be more advanced and Chinese buyers are increasingly patriotic in their preference for domestic brands. Many German dealers and customers are now increasingly frustrated. The price of the ID.3 is almost 25,000 euros higher in this country than in China, which, together with excessively long delivery times, is leading to the first gray imports. Commercially, however, gray imports would not make sense, if only because of the many different standards with the People's Republic.
